2025: In Pursuit of Love 💗

I have been choosing a word of the year for nearly a decade and today as I sat down to contemplate this year’s word I noticed that nearly every word I have ever chosen has led me into deeper learning but also deeper relationship with God.

Last year I chose the words cultivated friendship- and I really felt that I should keep them for another year. Each year I also try to couple my word with a verse. I didn’t always pick a verse but I think it is the most extraordinary part of picking a word. This verse is one that I paired with my words last year:

“You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.”
‭‭“You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.”

‭‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

To be honest the verse is the reason why I felt I wanted to keep it for another year. Mostly because I misused the verse. This verse seems better suited:

“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”

‭‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

My Vision Board from 2024

I heard someone describe friendship with God as unbroken fellowship with the Holy Spirit. As soon as I heard them, they gripped me and I knew this is what the words I chosen mean.

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. These things I command you, that you love one another.”

‭‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭13‬-‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I know when I love that I lack. But I believe that when God loves that there is no lack-it is complete. I’m not entirely sure yet- that’s what this year is for- but I believe that if God commands us to love that He also equips us to love. The preacher said today: “you can’t give away what you don’t have.”

Could that be true of love?

If you don’t have complete and perfect love in what way could you give it? It would always be incomplete and less than perfect.

These are the paths I will wander with God this year. Quite beautiful and filled with intrigue. I am in no hurry and yet I can’t wait for Him to unfold the wonder.

If you’ve yet to pick a word. There’s no day like today- you won’t regret It-I never have.
