Judgement

Nahum 3

”Because of the multitude of harlotries of the seductive harlot, The mistress of sorceries, Who sells nations through her harlotries, And families through her sorceries.“

‭‭Nahum‬ ‭3‬:‭4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

”because of the multitude of the prostitution of the alluring prostitute, the mistress of witchcraft, who sells nations through her prostitution, and families through her witchcraft.“

‭‭Nahum‬ ‭3‬:‭4‬ ‭WMB‬‬

When I read this scripture a holy anger rose up within me. When I hear how wickedness is selling children, families, and even nations. I am made furious. Doesn't this make you angry?  I just want to scream at the devil, bind him, and send him to hell where he belongs. And if it makes us angry, can you imagine the fury of God?

Wickedness seducing through harlotry and sorcery. In other words evil prostituting itself through witchcraft and lust. Doesn't human trafficking infuriate you? That's exactly what this is! The selling of people, families and even nations. I often find it difficult to read some passages of scripture. Scripture can offend us from time to time. Here’s a secret: That's a good thing.

What? Offense is a good thing? Offense from God’s Word when received with the right heart, allows God to point things out in us, it's His kindness.

”Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.“

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭139‬:‭23‬-‭24‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God’s correction hurts. But I have learned His love through it. He is always right. He is always good. And I am not. I am not always right or always good. But God is. He never changes. From everlasting to everlasting, He never changes.

”Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.“

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12‬:‭9‬-‭11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

God’s judgment is just. It is right. And It is His, only His.

”But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things.“

‭‭Romans‬ ‭2‬:‭2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

”Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?“

‭‭Romans‬ ‭2‬:‭4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Who else would you want to judge you? Fickle people? Or a God who never changes?

I’ll take God.

There is much judgement throughout the Old Testament. Anger. Harshness. But I think our difficulty reading His judgement is in our reconciling how similar we are to those who receive His judgement. And yes, God still gives judgement today.

How is God the same in the Old and the New when He appears so different?

That is an excellent question. What I am about to tell you shifted my whole perspective. Are you ready?

The cross is God’s judgment.

Because of the cross His judgment is satisfied and He can now give mercy and grace. It’s by no act of ourselves but by Jesus alone.

Judgement in the Old Testament looks the way it does because there was no cross. Aren't you grateful for the cross of Jesus?

Prayer: Thank You Jesus for the cross. Thank You for Your shed blood to cover all my sin and rebellion, you paid the price of judgement so I never would have to. Your mercy and grace are all too wonderful for me to fully comprehend. You are so so good to me. I love You. In Jesus's name I pray, amen.
