Consequences

1 Chronicles 10
So Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord. He failed to obey the Lord’s command, and he even consulted a medium instead of asking the Lord for guidance. So the Lord killed him and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.
1 Chronicles 10:13-14 NLT
Some Chapters are hard to read. This one is full of despair.
Fighting and killing and running. Saul kills himself on his sword, his armor bearer does too. Saul’s sons are killed and his lineage dies.
The last first tells us that Saul died because of his disobedience. Oh, that feels harsh! God had given Saul many chances to turn back to Him, to follow what He wanted. Saul kept going his own way.
There are consequences to our actions. They might take a little bit to catch up with us but they will.

It reminds me of a song by Relient K called I So Hate Consequences. The chorus says, I so hate consequences, running from you is what my best defense is.
However, it ends with this and I offer this as my prayer:
When I got tired of running from you
I stopped right there to catch my breath
There your words caught my ears
You said 'I miss you, son. Come home'
And my sins, they watched me leave
And in my heart, I so believed
The love you felt for me was mine
The love I'd wished for all the this time
And when the doors were closed
I heard no I told you so's
I said the words I knew you knew
Oh God, oh God I needed you
God all this time I needed you, I needed you.
Amen
