Kingdom Succession Planning

1 Chronicles 23
And so the Levites carried out their responsibilities for the tent of meeting, for the Holy Place and, under their relatives the descendants of Aaron, for the service of the temple of the Lord.
1 Chronicles 23:32
In this chapter we read about David preparing to “retire” per se. To hand over his duties to the next in line. In the business world, this is called Succession planning. Succession planning is the process of identifying the critical positions within your organization and developing action plans for individuals to assume those positions.
We spend so much of our time in life running the race. The race for the better job, the bigger house, the fancier car, the next big vacation and so on. We work hard and strive for these things our whole lives to show we are successful and going places. We fall into the trap of defining our lives as successful based on the way of earthly things.
Don’t get me wrong- it’s not bad to want these things and to work hard in life. But when we are putting these things at the TOP of our list day in and day out then our priorities are out of whack. Our calling to love God and share that with the world around us is the one true mission in our lives. It is what gives our lives purpose no matter how the world we live in looks around us. We don’t need a new car, the best new device, designer clothes or the best job tittle and so on- we just need a life full of Jesus.

The best succession is preparing our children to walk in the ways of the Lord. Proverbs 22:6 NIV says,
Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it.
I want my children to see me love Jesus. To see me love on others with a servant’s heart. I want my children to see me glorify Jesus above all else. I want my children to see my fall to my knees in front of the Lord. I want my children to see me admit when I’m wrong and seek forgiveness. I want my children to see my flaws so that they know how much I NEED Jesus. I want my children to know that a life full of Jesus is a beautiful live that is worth living. We don’t need all the fluff and junk the world tries to tell us we need.
The critical positions we need our children in are… sitting in churches with open arms praising the Lord, serving in small groups, gathering to volunteer, asking for prayers over their struggles, praying together and reading God’s word!

Prayer: Jesus, living for you is such a magnificent purpose. You give my days meaning and bring so much love to my life. On the days I fall short and fall into the trap of earthly things, send me the gentle reminders I need that there is purpose in a life serving you. So much purpose. Help me guide stay on right path and keep my eyes on you so that I can be a good example for my children. May they seek you, love you and walk in the ways of you, Lord. I want the Kingdom to be crowded with your children! In your name, I pray. Amen.
