SOAP 2 Chronicles 1: Word to the Wise

Amy T.

Word to the Wise

2 Chronicles 1

This is such a strange saying to me.  It means giving a small bit of advice to a person who is usually wise.  Wisdom itself is a tricky concept at times.  I know I have not always been wise or made wise choices.

Wisdom can be thought of as the ability to contemplate and act productively using knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense, and insight.

We begin this new book with Solomon offering a sacrifice to God.

That night God appeared to Solomon and said, “What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!” Solomon replied to God, “You showed great and faithful love to David, my father, and now you have made me king in his place. O Lord God, please continue to keep your promise to David, my father, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth! Give me the wisdom and knowledge to lead them properly, for who could possibly govern this great people of yours?” God said to Solomon, “Because your greatest desire is to help your people, and you did not ask for wealth, riches, fame, or even the death of your enemies or a long life, but rather you asked for wisdom and knowledge to properly govern my people— I will certainly give you the wisdom and knowledge you requested. But I will also give you wealth, riches, and fame such as no other king has had before you or will ever have in the future!

‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭1‬:‭7‬-‭12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Solomon asked for wisdom to lead and govern.  This is a noble request. God gave him wisdom and more because of his desire to help his people.  The Bible has a few other scriptures about wisdom.

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding.

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold.

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

To acquire wisdom is to love yourself; people who cherish understanding will prosper.

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭19‬:‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Proverbs Chapter 8 is all about wisdom.

For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord.

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭8‬:‭35‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Solomon asked for wisdom to lead and guide.  Today, we need wisdom for the same reasons.  We need it for ourselves, our families, and our communities.

Ask God and He will give it!

Thank you Jesus for Your wisdom.  Thank you for giving us this gift to help us.  Help us ask you what is wise.  Thank you for Your word that instructs us.  Thank you for your love.

Amen
