SOAP 2 Chronicles 15: Seek and Find

Seek and Find

2 Chronicles 15

For a long time Israel was without the true God, and without a teaching priest and without law, but when in their distress they turned to the Lord, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was found by them.

2 Chronicles 15:3-4 ESV

Even when we think that things are unredeemable, God can redeem. I am amazed when I read verses like this. It says that it was a long time that Israel did not choose God. They did not seek God. And it took considerable distress for them to turn back to God. God was still there for them. He did not hear them in their distress and ignore them because they should have reached out earlier. I hate that sometimes things in life have to get really bad before crying out to God. I have no answers for why humanity can be so stubborn.

Jesus prefers to walk with us always, in the good and the bad. Just because Jesus is walking with us, does not mean that there are not awful things that happen on this earth, in this life.

During the drive to school last year, my kiddos and I took turns reading Psalm 91 each morning. My intention was to make it a habit…I was not successful in doing it everyday, but I have started again. It is a Psalm of victory, victory only because of God. Read these verses from Psalm 91 and make them personal today:

Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.

Psalm 91:14-16 ESV

God’s promises are always true. His promises never fail.

I always hope to live in the faith of these promises. I always hope that I will call out to God first, and not last. I do not want to be like the Israelites. I do not want it to be a long time that I live without seeking the God of Israel. I do not want any people I love or know to live their lives without the true God. I want Jesus to show me, to show us the best way to live, the best way to show others the way towards Jesus.

What can you do differently today to increase your dependence on Jesus? In what areas in your life do you need to call to Him for help? He is not far. He will answer. He is with you always.

Thank you, Jesus, for your continued presence in our lives. Thank you for your love. Thank you for building our faith so that we can share our faith with others.
