SOAP Hosea 7: Stop Running

Stop Running

Hosea 7

Woe to them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them! Because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me.

Hosea 7:13 KJV

This chapter talks about how Israel has rebelled against God. It would be so easy for me to judge them, to wonder how they could be so foolish as to run from God. To rebel against the God that had done so much for them, who had redeemed them over and over again. But when I look at my own life am I any different?

Am I running from God?

Israel turned their back on God and worshipped other idols, they committed murder, adultery, and theft. They brought their own destruction upon themselves.

I haven’t worshipped other idols, but what am I putting before God?

I haven’t committed murder, but Jesus says in Matthew:

Ye have heard that is was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of judgement: But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgement.

Matthew 5:21-22KJV

I haven’t committed adultery, but Jesus says in Matthew:

Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, “Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say to you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Matthew 5 27-28 KJV

Jesus is talking about our hearts, it goes so much deeper.

I have not stolen anything, but what am I taking from God. Am I robbing God in my time, talent and treasure?

I am so thankful that we have grace. No matter how far I run all I have to do is repent and turn back to God and he is there to redeem me again. No matter how far I fall He is there to pick me up.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for your mercy and grace. Jesus I repent for putting other things before you, for relying on myself and not you. Show me how I have transgressed against you. I don’t want to run from you, but to run to you. Thank you for always waiting, like the father waiting for the prodigal son, with arms open wide ready to celebrate my home coming.

In Jesus Name, Amen
