I Am - He Is

ISAIAH 42
I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols.
Isaiah 42:8 NIV
One of the inherent principles of the Trinitarian doctrine is that Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are the Lord. The gospel of John captures this well in a few places.
And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
John 17:5 NIV
This verse captures the holiness of God. In the Old Testament the only name for God that was ever given was “I Am”. When you think about that statement it makes logical sense (how I love logical things!) The Lord is Holy. He is completely set apart. He is the only pre-existent being. He was never created, but simply was. More accurate since God is eternal would be to say “He is”. Who else could bear His glory? When we remember his holiness then we can understand how completely unjustified it is for us to try and give glory that is rightly his to anything or anyone else.

There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no rock like our God.
1 Samuel 2:2 NIV
Now in the new covenant these principles still stand firm. In Jesus Christ, we have the revelation of God’s glory. Jesus is God. I need to remember that in the name of Jesus Christ, there is just as much holiness as there ever was. Time does not change that. My feelings, doubts, worries and the trials of this world do not change that fact. God is still God and he is holy and worthy.
Therefore Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance. Now that he has dies to redeem them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.
Hebrews 9:15

Pray with me – Father, everything should be for your Glory. I confess that I fail, often. When I look at how I spend money, my free time and what I seek for pleasure…I am convicted Lord. The more time I spend with you, in the Bible, in prayer and in worship, the more I remember just how holy you are. You are worthy of my devotion. You are worthy of my sacrifices of whatever fleeting interest has hold of my heart. You are worthy of it all! Please forgive me
Lord. Help me to believe your worthiness. Let me remember your holiness and all it entails. Let your will be done. In Jesus’s name I pray. Amen.
