SOAP Isaiah 62: No Rest

No Rest

ISAIAH 62

I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call of the Lord, give yourself no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.

Isaiah 62:6-7 NIV

I love how this verse calls out to us to not rest, to keep continually praying and calling out to God to bring about all his promises. We are to be watchmen on the walls, diligently searching and standing our post day in and day out. Continually seeking the Lord.

But while this verse calls to give ourselves no rest, it also calls us to not give God rest either.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

As Christians we need to keep watch and not rest until we see all the promises of God come to pass. But we need to not give God rest either. We need to keep watching and praying and pleading until God brings his promises about. We cannot give God rest from our prayers and searching.

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Mark 11:24

I think of my children and how so often when they were younger they did not give me rest. The newborn stage was rough with my kids! The crying all night long... You get no rest.

This is the picture God showed me and how he calls us to in prayer as his people. We look to him for the promises of heaven and a new earth. A day when justice and righteousness will reign and a day when sin and suffering will be no more. When all nations will worship the one true God. So, until that time comes about, I am going to keep crying out to God day and night. I will not give you rest from my praying and pleading. Your kingdom come, your will be done.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Ephesians 6:18

Prayer: Jesus, we want your kingdom to come, and your will be done. Jesus, we want you to come as our king. God, we are asking for this. Help us to ask for this all the time, every day, knowing that no prayer is in vain and one day these prayers will be answered and your kingdom will come. Help us to walk in your will. Help us to love like you and live with holiness. Help us to live our lives more like you God. God, please bring it about. We will give you no rest until the fulfillment of all your promises. God, may it be so. In Jesus’s name I pray, Amen.

Your passage today reminded me of the woman in Luke, Chapter 18, that would not stop asking the judge:

”“For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’ ”“

‭‭Luke‬ ‭18‬:‭4‬-‭5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

As God asks us to be persistent, He is persistent in His pursuit of us, as well. This is always so amazing to me. There are always examples in His Word of the better way to model our lives.
