A God That Never Changes

ISAIAH 64

I was looking at this sky a couple weeks ago as I sat in the quiet of the night. The clouds were constantly shifting. It was reminiscent of laying on the ground as a child looking at the shapes in the clouds. Do you remember those more simply days? On this night, I could see all kinds of animal looking clouds, but they did not stay for long. They shifted and drifted away. Always changing.

The sand and landscape of the beach also changes quickly. One wave wipes away a pile of sand and the tide changes the way things look from one morning to another. Always changing.

Is life so different than these phenomenons in nature? Each day looks a little different. Each day I have choices to make - where I go, who I talk to, how I am impacted by the things that happen. And each choice can make an impact.

When reading this book of Isaiah, there are a few themes throughout that have been discussed the last 2 months. One of the themes that I see is that despite the regretful, often shameful behavior of people, God is unchanging. The Israelites are often very impacted by the world around them and have made wrong choices again and again. Yet, God remains unchanged…And He works for our good.

For since the world began, no ear has heard and no eye has seen a God like you, who works for those who wait for Him.

Isaiah 64:4 NLT

We could ask why He waits. The answer is not natural. God’s love for us goes beyond what we experience as love here on this earth. The love from Him is set apart from all other love. It is more intense. It is more forgiving. It is never changing and never ending.

PRAYER: Jesus, thank you for using Your Word to show us Your amazing love. Help us to grow in understanding of this love as we grow closer to You. Help us to grow with each other and closer in community as we study Your Word. Help us to see the ways You work in our lives everyday. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
