The Closer the Better

NAHUM 1

Today, we are starting a new book: Nahum. Nahum is the writer, his name meaning comforter. I challenge you to seek comfort in the few chapters he wrote. Nahum declares the fate of Nineveh and the fall of the Assyrian empire. If you remember the story of Jonah, he was sent to the city of Nineveh. God sent provision and His mercy through Jonah's message. It's likely Nahum's message occured after Jonah. Historically and with much archaeological evidence Nineveh was destroyed shortly after this book.

”The Lord is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he

never lets the guilty go unpunished. He displays his power in

the whirlwind and the storm. The billowing clouds are the dust

beneath his feet.“

Nahum 1:3 NLT

This chapter talks a lot about God's wrath on his enemies.

Nineveh is on his bad side again. Although things aren’t

looking too good for Nineveh, I love how this chapter

highlights God’s protection over his people.

”The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is

close to those who trust in him.“

Nahum 1:7 NLT

There are times in my life when I just need God to be close.

Moments of disappointment and sorrow that I just need God

to show up and make things right. Sometimes it's difficult to

trust in the moment but in the end, things work out.

”Look! A messenger is coming over the mountains with good

news! He is bringing a message of peace. Celebrate your

festivals, O people of Judah, and fulfill all your vows, for your

wicked enemies will never invade your land again. They will

be completely destroyed!“

Nahum 1:15 NLT

Prayer: Lord, thank you for being near me. You are always there to protect

me and my family. Please continue to provide peace during all

of the ups and downs. We worship you! Amen
