The Rich and Poor

The Rich and Poor

JAMES 2

"If you give special attention and a good seat to the rich person, but you say

to the poor one, “You can stand over there, or else sit on the

floor”—well, 4 doesn’t this discrimination show that your judgments are

guided by evil motives?"

James 2:3 NLT

Monday thru Friday I have a fairly consistent schedule - Bring my son to the bus stop,

my daughter to ballet, go to work near Mayfair Mall. Then, after 7 or so hours, leave

work, pick my son up and drive home. Recently, I have noticed people on the corners of

all the places that I go. I assume that these people are unhoused, without work, and

without resources. The pictures that I've shared are the places that I often see people.

Reading this chapter has always caused me to question my thoughts and motives

towards other. Where is my heart? Is it aligned with the heart of Jesus?

How can I be more aligned with the heart of Jesus? I think the desire to align

ourselves with Him is step one. Asking Jesus to guide us is step two. And being

sensitive, obedient, and committed to His plan for our lives is step three. There are

so many ways to get tripped up and go along our own paths.

A person may think their own ways are right, but the LORD weighs the heart. To

do what is right and just is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

Proverbs 21:2-3 NIV

We can be going down our own, not quite right path, and truly believe that it is the best

way. I am so glad to be loved by a God that will correct me and will build my faith

through the correction.

I am still uncertain about the best way for me to respond to the people in my daily path

that are often in these spaces. But, I feel a change in my spirit and I will wait on Jesus to

show me which direction He will lead me. He cares about the least as much as He

cares about me. And, I do believe that He gave me all that I have so that I can be His

love for others who struggle to feel loved.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for Your faithfulness today and everyday. Thank you for Your ability

and desire to change us. Continue to speak to us about how to live our lives in honor to

You. Teach us to love others as You have loved us. In the Name of Jesus, Amen

What do you do to align yourself with Jesus? Let’s talk about it!

Thank you so much for your words, they’ve touched my heart. My husband and I run a food pantry in the city. Sometimes, I don’t want to go because it takes so much out of me, I have nothing left for the rest of the weekend,

Sometimes I only go because i feel pressure to go. but when I'm there, i reap the blessing of the community my husband and i have built. Life is full of trade offs, but God is always good!
